Introducing: San Francisco FrontRunners East and West!

Same City, Twice the Club!

We are excited to announce a major step for our club.

As many of you know, our membership is growing at an amazing rate, and we have come to an important decision: We are going to form a second club in San Francisco to help spread membership more evenly through the city, and better-suit the needs based on where you live.

We are forming San Francisco FrontRunners East, and San Francisco FrontRunners West!

To better-illustrate the coming change, view the map below:

If you live West of the yellow divider line, you will become a member of San Francisco FrontRunners West, and if you live East, you will become a member of San Francisco FrontRunners East. Each club will still do some combined activities and occasional runs, but we’ll now be able to set up runs and events closer to where you live.

Not only will we be creating two clubs from one, we have also already begun forming Boards for each club to help make the transition as smooth as possible. The current 2013 Board will be heading SFFR East. We are ecstatic to announce that Dominic Paris and Mike deLeon will be the President and Vice President of SFFR West!

What happens now? We’ll be unrolling the new websites for both clubs in the following week, and will have a calendar of the transition and how you will transfer between clubs based on your address. There will be no additional cost to change, so fear not.

We thank you for your patience through this exciting step in our club’s history… We are setting the foundation for two amazing FrontRunners clubs!

Weekly Recap (March 23rd - 29th, 2013)

Hooray for the weekend! Here is your dose of weekly recap!

This last week we continued interval training with SF Track & Field Club, continued Marathon and Half Marathon Training, had a Pride Run Committee Meeting, and prepared for our Easter Saturday 5K Race… all in addition to our usual runs/walks!

Interval Training with SF Track & Field Club: More FrontRunners continue to join Sunday interval training with SF Track and Field Club at 10am at SFSU.

After a two hour session with Coach Chris Goodwin, teammates are shown relaxing and sharing their workout experience. Some members are preparing for upcoming meets, while others are just improving their running form or just doing it to keep in shape. For more information, contact Bob at callori@sbcglobal.net

Marathon and Half Marathon Training Continues!: We continued our Marathon and Half Marathon training with Robby Scalise this week. Head to our training section for info and updates on the schedule (link).

2013 Pride Run Committee Meeting: On Wednesday, we met at Bob’s and Chris’ place for another Pride Run meeting. Important decisions included selecting our new logo (soon to be unveiled) and other event aspects. We are currently seeking someone to be in charge of the food and some other aspects of the event. If you might be interested, please shoot an email to President@sffr.org

Easter Saturday 5K Race This Saturday!: Join us March 30th for a fun 5K race during our regular walks/runs. No registration or cost is involved… simply decide to run it the morning of, during our regular first circle. We have posted the official course for the event, including all the specific turns and instructions. Head here for all the details (link). Remember, you can win prizes based on age group, Easter costumes, and best-dressed pet! Following the event and walks/runs, we will be having our first Official Brunch at the Stow Lake Boathouse.

Upcoming Reminders: April Run News, April Movie Night, and Newcomers and Women’s Outreach Day:

We have some important events and reminders coming up.

First, April marks the first time this year that we will be changing directions during our regular Saturday Walks/Runs. This means that we will be following the 3, 4, and 5 mile courses in the opposite direction that we have been doing for the last 3 months. We will have people help guide each run for the first few weeks, so no worries on getting lost.

Next, we have April Movie Night on Friday, April 5th. Gary is hosting and you can get all of the details here (link).

Finally, we will have our monthly Newcomers and Women’s Outreach Day during the first Saturday or April. Invite friends along to come and check out our club!

Extra Tidbit: Girls on the Run (GOTR) in the Bay Area are putting on an exciting event in April to celebrate Women runners and find inspiration from local figures. Full info here (link).

That covers it for this last week.

Enjoy your weekend and see you at the runs, walks, and events!

Starting on March 30th (this Saturday), we will be officially changing our Saturday Brunch location to the Boathouse, who will offer a variety of baked goods, smoothies, granola, egg dishes, and other items. Of course members will continue to go to whichever brunch locations they prefer, but we encourage you to try the new location. Send any questions to president@sffr.org

-Pride Run Committee Meeting - Wednesday, March 27th - 6:30PM - 415 Hill Street: Join us at Bob’s and Chris’ house for another Pride Run meeting. We’ll be choosing our 2013 Race Garment and Logo, in addition to planning all of the events for Race Day and the fundraising parties. Show up and help us make the event a huge success. As a bonus, you get free food!

-Special Easter Saturday 5K Race and Official SFFR Saturday Brunch Change - March 30th - 9:00AM: Join us for a special Easter Saturday 5K (3 mile) race during our regular Saturday walks/runs. Awards will be given to the top 3 runners in both men’s and women’s brackets of 18-35, 36-45, and 46+, and we will be awarding best-dressed awards for the best-dressed person and the best-dressed pet! March Movie Night: Peter Kupfer hosted an awesome movie night this last Friday. We enjoyed delicious food and watched this year’s Best Picture winner, Argo. A big thanks to everyone who made it out and especially to Peter for hosting another great Movie Night!

March Bagel Brunch: On Saturday, the 2013 Board did the first of 4 Special Bagel Brunches this year.

We provided a free brunch to all 2013 Members as a thank-you for membership and support. We’ll be doing one every quarter, so it’s never too late to become a member and enjoy member perks!

A huge thank-you to everyone who helped set up and clean up!

Interval Training with SF Track & Field Club: On Sunday, after an 800 meter warm-up jog, runners begin their intervals with several 20 meter leg exercises, each followed by 20 meter jogs, the group circles up for some stretching.

These stretches includes lying on your back for leg extensions, then repeating the same on your stomach which help to prepare everyone for the actual workout. If you wish to know more about the 10am SF Track and Field workouts at SFSU, Cox Stadium, contact Bob at callori@sbcglobal.net.

Special Sunday Long Run and b(RUN)ch Fundraiser Event: We woke up bright and early (especially with daylight saving time) and did a special 10-12 mile Sunday Long Run that ended at Sports Basement near Crissy Field. We then joined in on the b(RUN)ch fundraiser event that helped raise funds for Larkin Street Youth Services, our 2013 Pride Run Beneficiary. A big thanks to everyone who made it to both the run and the fundraiser, and a huge thanks to Robby Scalise for organizing the run and to Rick Aguilar for offering runners a ride back to the Castro!

Marathon and Half Marathon Training Continues!: We continued our Marathon and Half Marathon training with Robby Scalise this week. Head to our training section for info and updates on the schedule (link).

Tuesday and Thursday Evening Hill Runs/Walks: We had a great turnout at both evening runs/walks this week!

This certainly can be somewhat attributed to the first week of lighter evenings (thanks Daylight Saving Time!). If you haven’t been to either run/walk in a while, go check it out, and see how big the groups are becoming!

Easter Saturday 5K Race is Scheduled!: Join us March 30th for a fun 5K race during our regular walks/runs. There may be a scavenger-hunt element to the event, so stay tuned for details. For now, head here (link) for more information!
